We toured the West and South shores on this second day. Below is Spouting Horn. The hardened lava created these tunnels/holes so when a wave comes in, water would shoot out of these holes. There were several here.
Private little beach. The beach itself is public, but the access is on private land. We had to off-road several miles (scary!), not even sure if we're going the right way. Only to reach a point where it's all jungle/trees. We then had to find a path through the jungle, which is also on private property. But you finally emerge out of the trees to a quiet little beach with no one else there. There were actually 2 other beaches that is off the same unpaved road, but we didn't have enough time. Next trip.
We flew from LAX to Oahu, then we were supposed to have a 3 hr layover in Oahu before flying to Kauai. We were able to catch an earlier flight from Oahu to Kauai, but our bags weren't. So as soon as we landed, we grab our rental car and head over to Hamura's Saimin while we wait for our luggage to arrive.
It was great! Instead of being stranded at the Oahu airport, we were able to enjoy a yummy bowl of saimin instead!
It's a place where mostly locals go, so when we walked in, we felt like we were in an old western movie. you know, where a guy walks into a bar and the whole place gets quiet and stares at you.
We casually find a seat and ended up having great conversations with this local guy, JK. "So the mainland knows about this place too, huh?"
This place hand makes their noodles! yum!
JK invites us to meet him later that evening to meet his wild hogs.
We head back to the airport to get our luggage and check in.
We then start the drive to Wailua falls. JK said to look for his truck on the way, and that's where he feeds his wild hogs every evening.
The hogs come and wait for him around this time everyday.
As we're talking to JK, we learn that he actually has his own TV show on Kauai's only tv station. (you can receive other national/hawaiian stations, but kauai itself only runs one). "The JK Show". Channel 6 at 6pm in Kauai. We were never able to catch it though.
After hanging out w/ JK for quite some time, we continue our drive up to see Wailua Falls.
to Kauai. We're actually in Waikiki, Oahu now, but I miss Kauai. So carefree and easy going. The superficial things don't matter anymore... which is good because I had a long shopping list that I had planned to do here in Waikiki, but after being in Kauai and just immersed in nature, I don't care for purses and jewlery anymore. :) (J's happy about that.) :P
We also surfed here in Waikiki, but it was too expensive to buy the photos. I'll post more photos from kauai later. We haven't been taking pics here in Waikiki. Just feels like Santa Monica. :P
